I have just completed a two day “Middle of Nowhere” first aid course with Dr Jon Dallimore and James Moore. Jon is a GP and specialist doctor in the Emergency Department of Bristol Royal Infirmary and James is the Director of Travel Health Consultancy, an independent travel clinic and consultancy based in Exeter. Both Jon and James are co-editors of the Oxford Handbook of Expedition and Wilderness Medicine.

Now, whilst we can’t claim that the UK is in the Middle of Nowhere, it is all too easy to find ourselves without mobile phone coverage, miles away from the nearest Emergency Department and potentially waiting for an available ambulance or helicopter to reach us.

Identification and reduction of risks, preventing and managing illness, monitoring and diagnosis of illness conditions, symptom based medical assessment, injury management and environmental medical problems have all been focused upon during this two day course. Vital skills for me as an expedition leader to far flung corners of the world.

You may not find yourself in the Middle of Nowhere, but would you like to be able to deal effectively with emergency first aid situations at home or at work? A one day Emergency First Aid at Work training course as run by us regularly in the north west for only £85 per person may well give you the confidence and skill to provide someone that you work with, or part of your family, that essential immediate, temporary care until the medical services reach you.

We run courses regularly and locally. Why not invest in someone’s future and learn more?
